Spirit Led Leadership for Liminal Times

A New Ministry for a New Era

Every church experiences pastoral transitions. Depending on the health of the congregation, a change in leadership might create no disruption to the ongoing ministry of the church. However, for a variety of reasons a local church could benefit from the appointment of a Spirit Led Interim Minister.

The formation of the Global Methodist Church and other Wesleyan denominations presents a unique need for ministers whose tenure may of necessity be abbreviated as new churches and churches in transition wait for the appointment of a regularly-seated pastor during the beginning phase of the new denomination. This liminal period presents new opportunities for the Holy Spirit to work in our midst.

SLIM

Who can be a SLIM?

Spirit Led Interim Ministers are committed to following the guidance of the Holy Spirit in every congregational situation. Some SLIM have specialized training in transitional intentional interim ministry which allows them to draw on a vast assortment of tools and skills. In every case the SLIM work to understand what is happening in the local church and by the power of Holy Spirit work with key leadership to help prepare the congregation for its next pastor.

Ultimately SLIM enable the church to gain a vision for future mission and ministry. In the formational period of the Global Methodist Church, they offer the local church time in which to secure a regular pastor to serve for the years to come.

In the formative stages of the Global Methodist Church any ordained minister approved by the Transitional Conference Advisory Team (TCAT) or Board of Ministry of a conference may serve as a Spirit Led Interim Minister upon recommendation of the minister's presiding elder.

SLIM-Net is developing a database of all approved SLIM in the United States which may be accessed by episcopal leaders and presiding elders or district superintendents. This database will include the names of SLIM-Net members and their qualifications, home conference, and geographic regions in which they are willing to serve. Thanks to the existing design of software used by other international ministries, the database may ultimately be expanded to provide service to all countries within the Global Methodist Church.
